How We Roast

From Cherry to Cup in Four Steps

01

Harvest

Ripe cherries are hand-picked at smallholder farms across Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Embu and the slopes of Mt. Kenya.

02

Process

Washed or sun-dried on raised beds within hours of picking, to lock in each lot's tasting profile.

03

Roast

Small batches roasted weekly at our Nairobi roastery, profiled origin by origin, not to a house style.

04

Ship

Bagged and dispatched within seven days of roast, so it's never stale by the time it reaches your door.

Our Story

From the mountain to your mug.

Ihua Coffee started as a single cart at a Nairobi farmers' market with one rule: never sell a bean we wouldn't drink ourselves. Today we buy direct from smallholder farmers across Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Embu and the slopes of Mt. Kenya—the same regions where our Nyeri Peaberry, Kirinyaga AA Supreme, Mt. Kenya House Blend, Embu Sundried Natural, Ruiru Washed AB, and Karatina Sundried Bourbon are grown at prices that keep them growing coffee instead of something else. Every lot is roasted in small batches, in Nairobi, within a week of your order.

Buying direct means we can trace every bag back to the farm it came from, and it means farmers see a fairer share of what you pay. We're still small enough that the person roasting your coffee this week is the same person who tasted it at the farm gate. That's not going to change as we grow.

What People Are Saying

“The Kirinyaga AA changed how I think about coffee. Tastes nothing like what I used to buy at the supermarket.”

— Amina W., Nairobi

“Ordering is painless and paying with M-Pesa took ten seconds. My bag showed up two days later, still smelling like it was roasted that morning.”

— Brian K., Kiambu

“I switched my office to the House Blend and nobody has complained once. That's the real test.”

— Faith N., Mombasa
